Vasudha Swaraj

Pratibha Syntex has a farming initiative named Vasudha Swaraj With sustainable cotton at its core, Vasudha takes a holistic approach by working towards the establishment of Self- Sustaining  farming communities, by bringing together 20,000 farmers of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where they grow their own non GMO seeds, organic inputs, supplying organic cotton to several leading brands of the world.

Pratibha/ Vasudha has been associated with Fairtrade since 2008, working alongside over 1,200 farmers. The Fairtrade premium earned on each harvest is directed towards community development and welfare initiatives, in alignment with Fairtrade standards.

At Vasudha, organic farming is a way of Life

At Vasudha, organic farming is a way of life—anchored in regeneration, resilience, and deep respect for nature. Farmers are seen as true scientists of the land, encouraged to revive time-tested practices adapted to modern conditions.
They adopt diversified cropping systems, prepare on-farm inputs like compost and bio-pesticides, and follow conservation methods such as low tillage and mulching. With over 27 companion crops identified, soil health improves while incomes rise and dependence on chemicals declines.
Seed sovereignty is central to Vasudha’s mission. With global partners, three proprietary non-GM cotton seed varieties have been developed and are now cultivated by farmers—enhancing biodiversity and self-reliance.
Through collaboration with 10Tree, Vasudha has set up nurseries growing 20+ eco-beneficial species. Over 300,000 saplings have been raised and 45,000 distributed for farm bund plantations—boosting biodiversity, livelihoods, and curbing migration.
Recognizing the role of livestock in organic systems, Vasudha runs cow urine collection centers, reducing cultivation costs by up to 30%. Vasudha ensures that farmers receive fair prices for their produce by directly purchasing cotton from them. Market access has also expanded to other crops like soybean, wheat, marigold, and turmeric, ensuring financial resilience and livelihood security.

Community Development

Pratibha’s commitment to community development stems from its core belief in inclusive growth and shared prosperity. A flagship initiative—Vasudha Jaivik Vidya Vihar, an English-medium school from Nursery to Grade 12—was established through Fairtrade premiums to provide quality education to the children of farmers and workers. Looking ahead, the society also plans to establish an agricultural college to empower village youth with professional education and career opportunities in sustainable farming.

Vasudha also leads several impactful initiatives focused on community well-being. These include regular health camps, awareness programs using creative formats like puppet shows, and comprehensive skill-building trainings. Annual events are held to celebrate and honor the invaluable contributions of farmers. Additionally, Vasudha farmers actively represent India on global platforms, championing regenerative agriculture and sharing best practices with the international community.
